Giving Thanks for Colds…I Guess

Over Thanksgiving we had a lot to be thankful for. Work is good, the kids are doing well in school, we have a nice place to live, there is plenty of food in the house, and…there are companies that make facial tissue…lots of facial tissue. I have kind of an odd quirk when it comes to taking vacation, or really any extended amount of downtime. The minute I start to relax and enjoy myself, I get sick. It’s usually a cold that lasts a few days and then I’m fine, but it makes enjoying time off kind of tough for that first little bit.

True to form, over Thanksgiving weekend this year no sooner had a I started to feel like I was beginning to unwind than I came down sick. It wasn’t bad, but I’m not the best patient in the world. While I’ve gotten better about this, I have a tendency to blow things out of proportion. When I’m sick I tend to turn into a giant blubbery man-baby. Although I guess “man-flu” is actually a real phenomena. Mildly Sensational has always been good about putting up with it, mostly because she knows the secret. Give me some Jello or some soup, let me play video games until I’m tired enough for a nap, and I’m good.

While being sick is never a good time, it has one thing going for it. I got to take over the TV that is usually the domain of the kids. I watched the movies I wanted to watch, and played the video games I wanted to play. Being sick I could have done without, but Thanksgiving turned out all right just the same.
